Our chapel has a small but dedicated army of volunteers who keep the place looking lovely. This time of year the gardens and lawns look magnificent whilst cleaning the interior is a constant job. Without these tireless volunteers the chapel would not be the place it is. Here are some of our dedicated band of helpers. To improve security of the site and to avoid unwanted use of the carpark new yellow removeable bollards are now in operation. These T shaped posts are locked into place and will be locked into the stands at the sides when the carpark is open for use.
Many of you will have met our new minister but how many of you have spotted that our church notice board is now up to date? After being blown away in the winter storms, it was rescued and remounted and has now been updated with our new minister Rev Farai Mapamula. You can also read her introductory entry to her own page accessible on the home page as FARAI'S BIT One of the main chapel doors has been unable to self close for quite a while now but recently had been more of an issue as the double action hinge was starting to sag and not allow the door to even close properly. Bearing in mind that these hinges are almost certainly original to the church and are now 105 years old they have given very good service. So the offending hinge was removed and taken to bits to investigate. A broken spring was quickly diagnosed once the components had been stripped. Not something I can just go and get a spare part from so carefully the broken end was welded back on and heat treated again. Reassembly followed and the hinge now has its spring back. To further increase its life the hinge has now been reversed so that the other side is now taking the main strain and the repaired one is on the operation direction which is less well used. The door now has its self closing facility back.
Unlike everyone else who perhaps has advent calendar doors to open we have a new door to open in the shape of a brand new maintenance free back door. The old one was rather worn and tired. So come and admire the new one next time you are in church. New fire doors have been fitted to the kitchen area of the chapel. This upgrade has replaced some old fire doors with new oak veneered unit which are fully compatible with current regulation. The one between the hall and the kitchen even has a window in it which will help passers through to see if there are others coming through the door. Next time you are in the chapel do pop in an admire them.
Our church grounds once again look a real picture thanks mainly to Mike and Jackies green fingers. There are some new flower beds at the end of the chapel walls and Mike is proudly mowing around the orchids which have now just finished flowering. Do take time to reflect on their labours which make our grounds really so well kept.
The outside of our church is looking lovely these days due to the efforts of our own flower girls. Jackie with her petunias down the side of the chapel and Linda has made a lovely display around the main entrance. Come and see for yourself one Sunday.
Our fabulous grounds team were at work again. This time clearing the gravel from the side of the rear carpark as it was breaching the damp proof course and starting to cause issues inside. The team (Mike, Steve and Phil) soon had the job completed. Many thanks chaps.
Our church was decorated for a wedding this weekend which does not happen very often in our church. The last wedding was seven years ago so it was a welcome change to see the church so appropriately decked out. Our congratulations as a congregation go the Rob and Hirani who run the local club.
